GLORY TO GOD!... in His own perfect time and divine purpose, we the SCA batch 81had reunited.Credit was given to Bing Movilla's e-mail(Aug 4,2007) to me, Normabella Salvador who tried by chance to e-mail a few of my classmates since my long silence for 26yrs. Few minutes later the connection via internet was very overwhelming, communication spread like a wild fire for once again classmates and batchmates were transformed to their highschool time. A never ending ym/e-mail of updates for every ones life, joking around sa mga kalokohan nung highschool, revealing old time crushes, mga niligawan, heartaches sa paka basted & etc... Then, Sept 2007, the PI based SCA81(Manila)headed by Essex Bernal, Lei Mamaril,Mars Escobar,Ebs Morillo,Elmer Pocsidio and our late dear Joel"Ramil" Monteaglegre in coordination with SCA81(Sta Cruz) headed by Dennis Mary,Anita Medul, Delma Mayo,Larry Marty,Tomas Mejos,Nelson Feria and Lino Mesia with the SCA81 US/Canada group headed by Norbie Gaerlan, Normabella Salvador,Ma.Carmela Marquez,Noel Castil and the rest of the group, a Silver Plus 2 Reunion was planned and put into action. We are very proud to say that we had a very successful reunion last March 22,2008 with a total of 76 batchmates attended the reunion along with some highschool teachers: Mrs Dedima Misola, Mrs Manla, Ms Fe Malong, Norma Malong, Mr Eclarino, Mrs Sison and Ms Abille. It was indeed a fun time for everyone,Dennis Mary and his crew went from barrio to barrio summoning all SCA81s. This was also one way of not only sharing our achievements in life but also sharing the abundance of our blessing that we have received from our dear Almighty.Though most of the out of PI batchmates were not able to attend, they had given their full support and from then on, a SCA81 San Diego,USA reunion was formed with 10 attendees; Northern California reunion with 7 attendees and Las Vegas reunion with 4 attendee not to mention the original and very first one(Dec.16,2007)... Norma& Ikay seeing each other for the first time in 26yrs, i guess we call it Southern California reunion!

On Sept 2008 we finally conduct our election of officers/board members and our mission/vision statement were made.

MISSION STATEMENT: The SCA81 is an organization committed to providing financial, spiritual and emotional support to its members and to the whole townsfolks of Sta.Cruz Zambales.

VISION: Through our leadership, we will work hand-in-hand with everyone in promoting welfare and improving the quality of life of our members and the town of Sta.Cruz,Zambales by providing scholarship programs, small business partnership and programs focusing on the well being of our people especially our children, our future leaders.

1st Year (Ms. Diaz)

3rd Year (Mrs. Misola)

2nd Year (Mrs. Sison)

Through our leadership, we will work hand-in-hand with everyone in promoting welfare and improving the quality of life of our members and the town of Sta.Cruz,Zambales by providing scholarship programs, small business partnership and programs focusing on the well being of our people especially our children, our future leaders.

The first challenge that our organization had faced was the wrath of "Cosme". Here, we were able to demonstrate our camaraderie, supporting our affected fellow batchmates by distributing relief goods, a joint project of every SCA81 officers and members. When hardship comes, I am proud to say that everyone is there ready to give a lift and again, this was proven when our dear classmate/batchmate Joel "Ramil" Montealegre went home with the Lord.

Lastly, SCA81 just had a Christmas Party and Fundraising Event last Dec. 27,2008 with 46 attendees. Thanks for the generosity of most of the members , all the proceeds from the fundraising event along with the collected monetary donations from outside PI members will be accounted for as we prepare for our forthcoming big projects.

We are also planning and looking forward for our 30th Grand Reunion comes 2011.With GOD's grace, hopefully we are still all around to witness once again the success of this event!

Congratulations to Insan Balong, our Chairman for this year's Xmas Giftgiving, and to those who lent their time and talent as well as those shared their treasure in making our annual Xmas Giftgiving a success. Based on the number of willing hands and batchmates who attended the giftgiving, and the indescribable happy faces of the recipients, indeed, our recent giftgiving was a success.

Job well done Big Brother Balong! We wish to acknowledge and thank our donors and supporters. Marami pong salamat -- the Good Lord will repay your kindness. As part of our policy of transparency, we will submit full accounting of donations received and disbursements as soon as Chairman Balong submits his report of expenses.

Santisimo parish helps calamity victims
By Christine Joyce S. Placino

THE SANTISIMO Rosario Parish of the University of Santo Tomas has recently extended humanitarian aid to victims of natural calamities in China and Sta. Cruz, Zambales, through food and cash donations.

The relief package consisted of more than 10 sacks of rice and other food supplies like instant noodles aside from P24,000 in donations which Santisimo Rosario parish, headed by Fr. Jaime Alamillo, O.P., had distributed among the affected families in China and Zambales.

“Aside from the collected amount, some people still gave monetary donations,” Alamillo told the Varsitarian. “All donations were sent within the first week of June.”

The charity project came at the heels of a 7.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Sichuan province at the southwestern part of China last May 12 and killed about 69,000 people. A few days after, typhoon “Cosme” battered Pangasinan and Zambales, placing the two provinces in a state of calamity.

Both events damaged infrastructures, curbed basic necessities, and displaced many families, prompting Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales to direct parishes to request donations for the earthquake victims in China.

The parish subsequently begun a separate relief project for typhoon victims in Zambales.

Announcements for collection of donations in kind or cash were made in every mass held from May 25 to June 1. The overwhelming collection turnout for the victims in China was immediately coursed through the Archdiocese of Manila. Three Santisimo parish staff members personally went to Zambales to deliver the relief goods for typhoon victims.

“We conduct these operations because we know that even though our resources are limited, the people are always willing to help and give out anything they can,” Alamillo said

.... I would like to think that the Cosme Relief Operation we had (May 24 and June 8) is a joint effort by all of us with a common denominator -- we love Sta. Cruz! As regards the focus on Pangasinan rather than Zambales, I can surmise the following reasons:

  1. GMA's mother is from Binalonan, Pangasinan.
  2. Pangasinan is a vote rich province (it has 6 congressional districts, unlike Zambales, we have only 2).
  3. Sta Cruz is the only affected town of Zambales, while in Pangasinan, the damages started from Infanta all the way to Dagupan.
But I agree with you, we dont need any politicians and/or influential persons for us to do our share to help Sta. Cruz. Its better that we do things without any political color -- and we wish to clear the minds of any doubting Thomases that what we are doing right now is without any future political motives.

By the way, last June 7 (Saturday), the SCA Batch 87 conducted medical mission at SCA Quadrangle. Susan Metran-Ednalino was able to arrange for a group of medical mission numbering 15 to 20 personnel. The medical mission gave also free medicines to people. The only costs shouldered by Batch 87 is accommodation, P5,000 gas, and food for 2 days. Good samaritans belonging to Batch 87 were able to donate sufficient funds to cover said costs.

I always believe na maraming tao na taga Sta Cruz na gustong tumulong at magbigay -- they are simply looking for an instrument and channel. I wish to think that I am simply an instrument. Lets give credit to those who always lend their hands and to those who are always ready to share and give unconditionally. Hence, credit should go to these people, with special mention, si Arcelli and Nerissa, na despite losing their homes, they always have that ready smiles and healthy dispositions.

Sincerely,
Jun Mirador
